Q: How is Mpumalanga supporting youth entrepreneurship? What are the available opportunities for youth-owned businesses and how to access them?

A: IDC has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with NYDA and sefa in order to establish a three way partnership to provide development funding to youth owned businesses. In terms of the MOU, the three entities will work together in the following areas relating to Youth development: a. Providing entrepreneurial and development finance. b. Concretising the Youth Fund concept c. Institutional capacity building/strengthening d. Funding support e. Management/strategic information sharing, and f. A joint implementation team. Through this collaboration, youth owned businesses will be able to access IDC and sefa loans allocated for youth, as well as NYDA grants and business support.

Q: I have a project that is classified as being of national priority. i need access to finance and doors will not open

A: Thanks. I’d urge entrepreneurs to take advantage of the products and services that IDC has on offer in order to start new business ventures or expand existing operations,thereby creating job opportunities, alleviating poverty and reducing inequalities within Mpumalanga and the rest of South Africa.

Q: Does the IDC fund private equity firms. Lunga (PE)

A: At the moment the IDC can invest in a private equity fund through the Risk Capital Facility, which is a fund managed by IDC on behalf of the dti. These fund is available to BEE SMES with a job creation potential.

Q: Hallo,my name is Shumani, am interested in buying a franchise of ABOUT 600. 000. 00, i have a capital of R200. 000,00;can i be assisted by IDC?

A: IDC is no longer funding franchises. Our subsidiary, the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (sefa) has taken over this role and should be able to assist in this regard

Q: Does IDC finance the academic research project that will result into commercial product? Mdibane, Crystal park,

A: No. Funding can be obtained from the National Research Foundation or the Technology Innovation Agency, both of which fall under the Dept of Science and Technology.
